Why to me? I don't know anything about the backend.

Logs I assume could be done using newsyslog, no? (I seem to recall we did make a change related to that a few months ago, but it wasn't terribly pruny.)

#2 Updated by Sean Fagan about 5 years ago

So, again, logs can be handled by newsyslog. I presume, right?

I don't know about the collectd data at all.

So questions to Jordan:

  1. For most logs, is this any different from simply running newsyslog?
  2. As stated above, I don't know about our use of collectd, nor where the files go, nor how to prune them. Does someone else?

1. No, I don't think so.
2. Probably not. Just make some shit up.

I don't know where the collectd logs are.

You'll find them, I'm sure.

Well, all the collectd is rrd. That prunes itself.

So I think all that means is we need to define newsyslog.conf entries for all our logs.

Log rotation already prunes old logs and collectd GC's old statistics info.
