Description

Every night FreeNAS saves off it's config file to the system dataset.

[root@freenas] ~# ls /var/db/system/configs-4f2482eb79aa4437a4fefb54eac185f9/
./ FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201509282017/ FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201512121950/
../ FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201510290351/ FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201512221600/
FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201509160044/ FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201511040813/ FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201512311435/
FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201509220011/ FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201511280648/

A subdirectory is made for whatever version of FreeNAS the system is running.

[root@freenas] ~# ls /var/db/system/configs-4f2482eb79aa4437a4fefb54eac185f9/FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201512121950/
./ ../ 20151216.db 20151217.db 20151218.db 20151219.db 20151220.db 20151221.db 20151222.db

The database is saved with a date stamp.

The backup runs at 3:45am

This feature is a little less than useful if the system dataset is set to the boot pool. However if the system dataset is pointing to the storage pool it can be used to recover the FreeNAS config file if the boot pool melts.
