Description

We should probably upgrade since our users are reporting some performance issues with 4.3, just so long as we don't regress the previous versions support.

I'd personally wait at least for 4.4.1 - previous versions are still broken in samba mainline.

I just wasted 10 hours on a samba 4 bug in FreeNAS 9.10... :(
SMB3_02 implementation in the bundled samba (4.3.6) is broken so that Windows Backup keeps failing.

Apparently there were several occasions Windows Backup was broken, for numerous reasons.
But none of previous solutions helped.

At what makes it worse for me is that, samba team have quickly fixed the issue once the bug was filed.
As a result, the problem existed for only a small time window, so very few people had the problem.
Consequently, searching for solution was quite hard.

I just wonder, is there any specific killer bug in the latest samba prevent FreeNAS adoption?
Although it still has bugs (probably it always will), but if we can get less buggy ones, it is still a win? :)

4.4.3 was released in May. Have they incorporated the fix for previous versions?

we will have to revisit this to see when FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE is ready to accept samba 4.4. currently FreeNAS-9.10.1 ships with,

[root@stable-shark ~]# samba -V
Version 4.3.11-GIT-UNKNOWN/

To clarify for doc purposes, which version of Samba will ship with U1?

#12 Updated by Josh Paetzel almost 3 years ago

4.3.11

In that case, should the target version in this ticket be changed to reflect the version that will contain Samba 4.4?
