Description

Installed sabnzbd plugin for the first time and it wasn't running. Had to jexec into the jail and run:

$ sysrc sabnzbd_enable="YES"

To get it to start/restart correctly.

to clarify, did you try starting it on the Plugins > Installed tab?

Actually, I didn't notice that section. I installed it and it wasn't running and tried starting/restarting it from the jails tab.

If Plugins > Installed would have worked, why isn't it enabled by default ?

because that's how it was originally setup. some plugins require configuration first, might be a reason to force the user to enable/start the plugin.

restarting the jail, would only (re)start the plugin if the plugin is enabled.

Things must have changed. I've installed plex and transmission plugins a while ago, and I don't remember having to enable them after installing them.

If there's a way to default sabnzbd to be enabled, it should be, as its configuration requires it to be running.

The source history is available on my github, none of the plugins including Plex /transmission were enabled by default.

The other plugins work this way. I'm not going to recompile this plugin to change this behavior for just this plugin because you told me to.

My memory must be wrong with plex / transmission or something else was in place that enabled them back then--it's been a while.

I'm not commanding you to do anything with sabnzbd, but that is a strange reaction. Just stating the obvious that with sabnzbd, there is no configuration to be done without it running.

I read the "should be" as you telling me to, lol.
yeah makes sense these plugins should be started, but once again in not changing the status quo for freenas 9.X plugins. we should keep this in mind for freenas 10. though Im not sure if most docker images start themselves, or usually require a user to.

I haven't tried FreeNAS 10, so I don't know what the process would be to install/enable a plugin. But on 9, from my perspective, it appeared that the plugin was broken.

- I click on the Plugins button at the top, find SABnzbd in the list and click Install. There was no message after that.
- I then click on the Jails button and see that it's running.
- Then I click on Plugins on the left hand side, and it expands to show SABnzbd, which I click on and it shows me the message: "SABnzbd can be found here by default" with a link on here. When I click on that it's broken.

Now I know better, but it wasn't intuitive. For 10, it would be good if the plugin install process gave some directions. If a plugin needs to be configured first, provide directions and a link to do so. If it needs to be started first, do so.

I'm not involved in the plugin system. I just write/maintain the majority of the plugins themselves.
