Bug #16453
GUI indicators not accessible to colorblind/monochrome users - section 508 compliance?
Description
The NAS global alert indicator status indicator is not visible to people with red/green color blindness or monochrome displays. The expectation would be GSA section 508 compliant controls including an indicators that positively identify function without color and a provide textual descriptions.

Add the text where? Do you mean below where its currently written "Alert"?

Well, right now it always says "Alert" whether the colored button is red or green. Could we change that text to instead change based upon the status of the button above? Status: OK or Status: Alert or something of the like? I'm not picky to the particular text. Ash, did you have something in mind?

A textual indication would suit the intent nicely. Perhaps there is wording in the guide that describes the colors concisely.

William, thoughts? Would renaming "Alert" text to "OK/warning/critical" to match the color of the alert graphic up top work? I have empathy for this one, almost all the men in my family are color blind and can't see the difference between the red/green icon without some text prompting ;)
