Description

FreeNAS already stores backups of the config file in the .system dataset. These are occasionally useful, when people lose all their explicit backups, but finding them and uploading them is a bit more painful than the average clueless user can handle.

As such, it makes sense to leverage the existing backups to allow for a "Restore configuration backup from the .system dataset" option. I'd recommend a drop-down list of all the available backups (perhaps only for the current or latest FreeNAS version?).

Where in the GUI is this? I haven't come across it, it's not next to the old download/upload options and a quick search of the angulargui branch of the docs doesn't help me either.

That only gives me the option to upload a config from the client. This ticket is about grabbing one from the system dataset, where they're already backed up anyway, and restoring that one.

I see, perhaps there was some confusion about what this ticket was meant to accomplish, is this in the old UI somewhere or was this supposed to be a new feature?

#13 Updated by Eric Loewenthal 12 months ago

It's a new feature.

Oh I see, sorry for the confusion I will look into it. Since beta-1 is just around the corner I'm not sure it is time to sneak new features in now but we could revisit this for 11.2-stable if it isn't aready in there somewhere (I'll try to figure out where it is)
