Description

geom_raid5 was added back in 2010 to allow people to migrate data from graid5 volumes created with FreeNAS 7.

The inclusion of this module significantly slows the boot for systems with unlocked SED, as this module is a kld and gets to taste all the drives before they are unlocked.

Revision 4a0e7b75 (diff)
Added by Alexander Motin about 1 year ago

Remove RAID3, RAID5 and GATE GEOM modules from load.

We are not using the first two for years, and the last I can't recall
we used ever. If somebody need them -- they are still built and can
be loaded manually. This should speedup both booting and disk tasting
by GEOM.

As well as geom_stripe, geom_raid3, and geom_ggate.

FreeNAS needs geom_mirror and geom_multipath.

I don't see any reason to keep those. Alexander, if you can't think of a reason either, please go ahead and nuke them.

#4 Updated by Alexander Motin about 1 year ago

I agree that they were likely kept just for migration from some ancient versions, except for geom_gate, which I can't recall we used ever. I think we can remove them from loading. Since we are any way building all GEOM modules, somebody who may need them for any reason should be able to still load them.

This change removed functionality, not added. So it does not sound like there is something specific to test.
