Vladimir, can you investigate this, please? According to debug his disks do support SMART.

Ian, all your disks are on mrsas bus 0.

We only support SMART on pass-through disks on mrsas bus 1.

Was SMART working for you in this configuration on previous versions of FreeNAS?

Thanks for taking a look, Vladimir. It is the first time I am installing FreeNAS on this machine and do not know if it works with other versions.

Is there a way to switch all of the devices to a different bus? This NAS has not production data on it and I am able to destroy and recreate pools at will. Thanks.

Saw someone with similar issue and will try resolution in https://redmine.ixsystems.com/issues/18136 but will happen only later today (Pacific Time).

Ok, forcing mfi driver does no good, and controller just keeps resetting and never boots. I guess I either need to get a different controller (HBA) or leave without smartd. HW CRITICAL ERROR :-(

Vladimir, do you recall why we enforce bus 1? From his debug smartctl seems to be happy providing stats from his disks like this.

William Grzybowski, looks like it is controller model dependent, but we have no reason to do these checks now, with rewritten ix-smart one disk that does not work won't lead to smart service not starting anymore.
