Description

Hi,

The only way to currently manage permissions is on a volume. It would be nice if we could manage permissions on subfolders, in some way. Or what is the suggested way to set permissions? Set up the base permissions using the volume and CLI, then connect using NFS or CIFS and set the permissions?

The best way to do things is set volume/dataset permissions, then finely tune permissions from an NFS or SMB share. Based on past experience, setting ACLs and fine grained ownership of files is much easier to do and visualize from a Windows client than from Unix based platforms.

Eventually, direct CLI access will most likely be removed or redone, s.t. remote manipulation is the only real feasible means to access the share.

On an SMB share, I can't manage permissions, the permission settings are greyed out.
