Description

When using NIS for directory services I am not able to authenticate with the NIS account to a CIFS share. I am able to ssh into the box using the NIS account however.

After spending quite a bit of time looking into this, NIS for samba share authentication doesn't really look possible. There are ways to do it by synchronizing NIS passwords with samba passwords, but that's a different can of worms. I'm going to keep this open for now, however, it's not likely to be resolved anytime soon. Perhaps we could roll a pam modules to handle this?

BRB: as mentioned by John, NIS for samba share is not possible I am closing this ticket as NTBF.
