Description

I always cringe as a non-developer saying "this should be easy", but I'll say it anyhow. ;-)

The cloud sync interface and functionality works flawlessly to create an encrypted backup to an offsite location (such as BackBlaze B2 or S3), but there is no clear way to recover this when it's encrypted. If you store it unencrypted, you can easily recover by downloading directly from BackBlaze or other provider. Things get murky when you choose to encrypt your offsite backup. All you can download from the provider at that point is encrypted blobs.

There is a small thread here I created, which discusses this.

https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/restore-encrypted-cloud-sync.72168/

Can we add a "Restore" option in the cloud sync task? A small script that creates a "pull" from the online provider and allows you to use the same password and salt to recover to the location of your choice? Perhaps offer to overwrite the original location or make a new dataset for the recovered files.

This would enable one-click disaster recovery. That would be great functionality for a NAS, I think.

I think we can implement it the same way as for replication: https://redmine.ixsystems.com/issues/73603
