Description

I installed FreeNAS 9.3 fresh and created a CIFS share. I tried connecting from Windows 8.1 enterprise and got access denied. Permissions on the directory were fine.

This might be the same issue as #2043.

Same as reported here https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/everything-works-except-cifs-login.22734/#post-136344 . I could SSH, use AFP sharing, and everything else.

I solved the issue by changing my password for flight16 to a different value and restarting CIFS. When I simply entered the same password and saved, it wasn't fixed.

BRB: Can you perhaps attach the full /var/log/samba4/log.smbd, as well as your smb4.conf file, just to give us more info? Thanks.

Better yet, can you go to System->Advanced and click "Save Debug" and attach it to this ticket please?

I just made an observation I did not make when I originally looked at this ;-) You are receiving NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED errors. This is not a password issue but a permissions issue. (Though I do find it odd that changing your password "fixes" this). Anyhow, make sure you have all the latest updates applied and please get me the debug file I requested. If you can tell me what user you are trying to access a share as on your windows box, as well as the output from the following commands on the CIFS share in the filesystem:

ls -ld /mnt/path/to/share
getfacl /mnt/path/to/share

cat /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf

Actually. I'm positive this is a permission issue. It's also been 22 days since originally requesting info. I also see that you created your account to make this ticket and haven't been on since ;-) I'm marking this as a user configuration issue, if you still have problems with this, feel free to open another ticket.
