Description

Hi,

I'm starting with a fresh install of FreeNas: FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201501241715

Its running a Virtual Machine (ESXi 5.5)

After selecting:

Directory Service -> NT4

Entering my domain controller, netbios name, workgroup name, administrator name and password, and clicking on "Enable", I get the following in messages:

Jan 29 11:20:34 freenas NT4: /usr/local/bin/python /usr/local/www/freenasUI/middleware/notifier.py stop cifs

Jan 29 11:20:48 freenas kernel: pid 4541 (sqlite3), uid 0: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)

A reboot of the machine renders it unusable, as i encounter the "core dumped" message on the console, and cannot use the text based menu. I have to reinstall, actually.

The only way I've seen to eliminate the core dumps is to remove the NT4 Directory Service entries, and configure the Active Directory Directory Service.

Ultimately, I'm trying to configure the NT4 directory services so that I can get a 'security = domain' entry in the smb4.conf file. I notice that when i configure the active directory directory services, it sets it to 'security = user'.

Anyway, this looks like a bug. Please help.

Sorry, I didn't see the previous comment from sef asking the same question! OK, 8GB of RAM should be sufficient. Over to John to see if this is NT4 specific.

I believe this is fixed in 8a552c2b02ac388956da72f1e8da4ac5dbe0212a, can you verify?

I would love to. Forgive me, but how can I apply this patch? Can you point me in the right direction?

Never mind. I created patches for each of the files, and patched.

The changes DID work. The issue has been resolved.

Awesome. Can I ask you why you are still using NT? ;-) I have to ask this of everyone who still runs it ;-)

We actually are NOT using NT, but do use "security = domain" for our smb.conf configurations (i was under the impression that the only way to do "security = domain" was to enable NT4 directory services.) With active directory enabled, it set security = user, which i didn't want.

Are you joining an Active Directory? If that is the case, then no, security does not get set to user, it gets set to ADS. What you probably saw was joining your AD failing for some reason, which in turn reverts back to your CIFS configuration with security = user.

So, if you are indeed joining your FreeNAS to an Active Directory using security = domain, I highly suggest you try using Active Directory instead. If it doesn't work for you, I can help you get it working.
