Description

Settings for AFP home share are inconsistent with user-defined shares, in particular missing setting cnid dev, veto files, and permissions. There is also not a way to add volume-level customisations to home share or user-defined shares, such as search db or case sensitive.

Here is my afp.conf as created by FreeNAS:

[Global]
uam list = uams_dhx.so uams_dhx2.so
max connections = 50
mimic model = RackMac
vol dbnest = yes

[Homes]
basedir regex = /mnt/tank/afp/home

[Time Machine]
path = /mnt/tank/afp/timemachine
time machine = yes
cnid dev = no
file perm = 644
directory perm = 755
umask = 000
veto files = .windows/.mac/

I'm not sure how many AFP options we want to expose through the GUI, but I'm guessing the specific ask here is for the home share to be as featureful as the other shares, which makes sense given that home sharing is set as an AFP service attribute with very limited options. Is there some reason that a specific share, in the sharing UI, can't be designated as the home share? I don't remember why we broke it out into its own section of the service configuration UI

I thought Suraj was getting all the AFP bugs now? I have no way to test this kind of stuff.

As far as the home share, it should probably get broken out into a first class citizen just like we ended up doing with samba home shares. They started life as a checkbox then turned into a full-fledged share.

I was more looking for feedback from the previous AFP maintainer, but sounds like the right thing to do is well-understood here so over to Suraj.

Over to Vaibhav to see if we can at least support the notion of an AFP "home share" the same way that SMB home shares are supported, just for completeness' sake.

VB, something you can handle, or should we re-assign it to Suraj? Or heck, is this a calsoft candidate?

sorry for sitting on this bug for so long but I do not have much idea what can I do something to fix this, if someone would like to help me understand the issue I would like to work on it.

assigning it to you William as I don't know much about AFP and it seems this is more like a middleware issue.
